Spoke too soon, thankfully.

So it looks like I spoke about 12 hours too soon for lamenting we wouldn't get any medals. We earned SEVEN!!!!!! over the course of the weekend. I watched four of them gain a gold, silver and two bronze yesterday, and then woke up to discover we had gained three more! (how awesome is that?) We're now ranked 19th overall in the medal standings.

We acheived our first gold with women's freestyle wrestling in the 48kg class; I'll admit to getting choked-up (really choked up, actually) watching the medal ceremony during the playing of our national anthem. Then we also got a bronze in women's wrestling, 55kg class. Last night, 19 year old Ryan Cochrane achieved bronze in the men's 1500 freestyle, Canada's only medal in swimming. Also last night/yesterday, our men's pair (without coxswain) in rowing achieved a silver.

And then, while I was sleeping, our men's eight (with coxswain) in rowing apparently DOMINATED the entire race and achieved our second gold overall!! We also achieved two more bronze, both in rowing - one in the women's lightweight double sculls and one in men's lightweight sculls. I say we're pretty damn good at rowing, don't you??

Michael Phelps got his 8th gold, 7th world record, and Speedo now has to cough up that million dollars. Also, I've heard he gets 50 grand per gold from the American Olypmic Committee. HOLY COW!!! I can't wait to see what he can do in different events in 2012 at London! (His coach basically said in a CBC interview that he was going to try some different events next time).

In personal news, I have a job interview at a restaurant for kitchen work today. Thank GOD, I was beginning to think I was never going to get one. I'm trying not to get nervous about it; I have another 3 and a half hours to go so we'll see how succesful I am at that! I'm also trying to mentally comply a list of strengths/weaknesses that are appropriate to say in a job interview, because I always totally blank when they ask me that question.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, kay?

Good Luck! I hope you get the job!

I can't wait to see what Phelps ends up competing in when he goes to London. He amazes me.

I love the Olympics. I am so sad they are almost over. :(
